Jeff Perry: Bio

Music Educator, Arranger, Trumpet, Electric Bass and Laptop

I have been playing music since age 9, trumpet is my first instrument and I picked up electric bass in college. I majored in jazz arranging in college, jazz composition for my master’s degree, and I love Rock and Roll.

I teach in the Contemporary Writing and Production Department at Berklee College of Music, Berkleemusic.com (arranging online), the City Music Program through Berklee, and I also teach trumpet and electric bass lessons at Music Maker Studios.

I was made to be a music teacher; I truly love teaching music to people of all ages. I also get time to perform music periodically, I am a freelance trumpet player in the New England area, and I get the pleasure of performing with my wife, on bass … she is a singer/songwriter.

My personal feeling for any student that wants to learn music -- it should be FUN! My philosophy for the beginning student: keep it simple, learn music that you want to play, and HAVE FUN! The rest will fall into place ... that said, it does take a lot of hard work, but that does not mean we can't have fun, right!

CD’s I have released as a leader:
Jeff Perry – Quartet (2009)
Jeff Perry/Gregg Brennan – Music for Brass and Percussion (2005)
Jeff Perry – Foundation (2003)
The Jeff Perry Quintet – Andersonville (1998)

And as a sideman and producer for:
Jes Perry - The Way That I Feel (2009)
Jes Perry – Clearing My Head (2002)
Carl Perry (my father) - Music for the Native American Flute
We Remember (2009)
Sounds From My Soul (2006)

My major influences are Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix, and my favorite musicians are constantly changing, currently I am in a major jazz and trumpet music phase.
